- Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, Physics, Medicine and Electrical Engineering and Executive Director of Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics (ILPB), University at Buffalo, New York State, U.S.A.
- Multidisciplinary researcher in the field of biophotonics and nonlinear optics who achieved general recognition for his pioneering work in use of light-based technologies to address important global health problems. He published monographs “Nanophotonics” and “Introduction to Nanomedicine and Nanobioengineering”.
- Distinguished Professor at Department of Physics, Professor at Department of Materials Science Engineering; Director of the Graphene Research Center and a Director of the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials established within the National University of Singapore.
- Materials scientist and condensed matter theorist who achieved world recognition particularly for his works in 2D materials. He became one of the leading theorists in the study of graphene and in Boston University a collaborator of Prof. A. Geim and Prof. K. Novoselov, winners of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of graphene.
